Introducing the Bridging the Gap Textbook Program

At Dartmouth, the steep costs of class materials (chiefly required reading and textbooks) can be an unexpected financial burden and a roadblock for many students throughout their academic journeys. Students should feel empowered to pursue their academic interests without having to make difficult choices because of the potential costs.

We have instituted a textbook program that will assist students in purchasing their textbooks each term. With this program, we also aim to facilitate the sharing of resources within our community and to promote sustainability by collecting and keeping an inventory of used books and redistributing them to students who need them for the next term.

How it works

Double Check

Are the books you need already available through the library or an alternative source for free textbooks? Before requesting, make sure you look into all your options! We recommend checking out Library Genesis, BookBoon, and Project Gutenberg. Some professors will also work with you to help get your books. If you feel comfortable, ask them what your options are!

Request

Fill out this textbook request form once it opens for the term (22F: September 13th - September 23rd). You can request up to 3 textbooks.

Confirm

We will notify you if we can meet some or all of your requests. If there is a change in your needs (ex: due to course changes) please let us know immediately.

Pick-Up

When your book(s) arrive, we will arrange a time and location for you to pick them up. At this time, you will sign an agreement form that confirms you have picked up your book(s) and agree to return them on a certain date.

If an electronic copy of your book is purchased, you will receive the .pdf file via email upon our receiving of the material.

Return

All books must be returned at the end of term in good condition before or on the established date. Late returns will be charged at a rate of $10 per day.
