Reproductive Rights
Reproductive rights are crucial to the well-being of our community, empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their bodies, health, and futures. By ensuring access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare—including contraception, prenatal care, and safe abortion services—these rights foster autonomy, promote health, and advance gender equality. It is our responsibility to keep empowering communities by advocating for policies and programs that protect and uphold reproductive rights for everyone, regardless of background or circumstances.
What’s Next? - Reproductive Rights 2025
This year, our event focused on the pivotal question: What’s next? With the nearing of a new presidential administration and the recent swearing-in of New Hampshire's new governor, we explored what the future holds for reproductive rights and justice. We discussed how we can protect ourselves and others, stay informed, and actively engage in the fight for reproductive justice in the coming months.
The event featured an open conversation with a panel of experts, including a representative from Planned Parenthood, Men4Choice, and a Dartmouth professor from the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, share their concerns, and gain valuable insights into the future of reproductive rights, actions to take, and how we can all make a meaningful difference. It was an important and informative discussion as we looked ahead and continued the fight for reproductive justice.
Protecting Our Wombs - Reproductive Rights 2024
On Wednesday, April 10th, the Pi Theta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta hosted an impactful event titled Protecting Our Wombs at the Haldeman Center. This engaging discussion brought together speakers Josie Pinto, Aaron Bos-Lun, and Satchel Williams to address the crucial topic of reproductive rights and health. Sponsored by the GLC, the event served as a space to empower womanhood while fostering a deeper understanding of our bodies.
The discussion was especially timely given the seismic shifts in reproductive rights across the United States. Since the 2022 overturning of Roe v. Wade, 13 states have implemented total abortion bans, with many others enacting severe restrictions. These measures disproportionately impact women of color, Black women, and individuals living under the poverty line, among others. The event highlighted these disparities and the pressing need for broader, inclusive conversations about reproductive justice.
Attendees were encouraged to reflect on the question: What can we do to stay involved and informed? This critical dialogue emphasized the importance of collective action, education, and advocacy—not just for those directly affected, but for everyone.
We Bleed Red - Reproductive Rights 2023
On Wednesday, April 12th, the Pi Theta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. hosted Deltas for Global Change: We Bleed Red, at Haldeman 031. This initiative, organized in collaboration with PERIOD., The Menstrual Movement, shone a spotlight on the critical global issue of period poverty.
Period poverty refers to the inability to afford menstrual products, a challenge that impacts millions of people who menstruate worldwide. The event served as a platform to educate attendees on the far-reaching consequences of this issue, including its effects on education, health, and overall quality of life. From young students missing school to adults facing workplace barriers, period poverty perpetuates cycles of inequality, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities.
With resources and support from PERIOD., attendees learned about the grassroots efforts and policy initiatives being undertaken to combat period poverty globally. The discussion delved into strategies to increase access to menstrual products, reduce stigma surrounding menstruation, and advocate for systemic change. Attendees were encouraged to explore ways to get involved locally and globally, whether through advocacy, donations, or supporting organizations dedicated to menstrual equity.
